Something For The Birds
I (finally) created a deviantart account last night, as theflightoffancy. If you haven't heard of it before, deviant art is a huge, free web community of artists sharing and just plain old adoring other people's work from around the globe. They also offer affordable printing prices and fun products like cards and puzzles.
Please add me or just go take a look at some of my favorite photographs at theflightoffancy.deviantart.com
Riding High
This mellow dog and his new owner made my day. On my way into a restaurant last week, a woman pulled up in a convertible with the top down. One of the three dogs in her car was riding on the very back, on top of the folded-down canvas car topper, cool as a cucumber. As we admired him, the dog's owner told us how she'd rescued the dog from a Mexican dumpster. Not sure if she meant from a dumpster in Mexico, or a dumpster behind a Mexican restaurant, but either way, I'm sure this lucky doggy is enjoying his new life. My camera was freaking out that day and this was the only photo that made it through; I'm sad I can't show him to you before he got camera shy!
Potbelly Beach at Sunset
Watched the sunset from the beach near my old house in Aptos. Am loving how my trusty ole camera turned the lights from Capitola
Village into pentagonal bokeh. It was fully dark by 7:10 this night, and while I love Fall, I am still sad to say goodbye to long days.

Dusk at Corcoran Lagoon
Spent some time in the lagoon library parking lot around sundown. I can't see the actual sunset from around my house. Because of the
shape of the bay, I'd have to drive across town to actually get a glimpse of the sun setting out over the ocean. This week, I vow to do it before it starts getting even colder!
The Pumpkin Patch
Took some Halloweeny photos with Eric at the nearest pumpkin patch. The sun was a little too high and bright, I should have waited a while longer
to catch the golden hour light. Luckily I have the rest of the month to seek out more patches.
Night Lights Part I
I haven't played around with nighttime exposures in a long time. Obviously, I need some practice, but driving out the the cliffs above La Selva beach was illuminating in a way. I didn't know my camera could even pick up stars! There was even a hint of the Milky Way still visible to the eye. I'm really glad Eric came with, it was so dark.
The Tyrolean Inn
Celebrated my mothers birthday this past weekend with a little trip up into the mountains to the Tyrolean Inn. Specializing in Bavarian cuisine, this eccentric little restaurant in Ben Lomond has been tucked among the redwoods since before I was born. When my mom first moved here from Germany, friends often took her there to ease her homesickness. More than thirty years later, we enjoyed classics like wurst, schnitzel, spatzle and goulash, then finished things off with shared apple strudel and mousse with kirschwasser. Yum-or I guess I should say, lecker!
To Tree or Not To Tree
This stand of trees behind my home are always catching my attention. The sun sets behind it beautifully, and on a windy day it makes more rustling noises than anything else. But I can't seem to capture it right from my backyard. While playing with the image in Lightroom, I flipped and desaturated it; I love how it looks like blotted and dripped paint.
Oreo Deux
To take these, I had to keep up a constant stream of high-pitched baby-talkin' gibberish for Oreo to even look at me.
I like how the flash glares off her wet nose and eyes.
Happy Splish-Splashy Weekend
I tend to feel most energetic and creative at night. On work-nights, this is a pretty annoying habit to have. I need to be winding down for sleep, and instead I'm suddenly coming alive, filling up with to-do's and want-to's. One night I put this ridiculous energy to use and made a mess in the kitchen, trying to capture water droplets. Picture the glass sitting on a cookie tray (to catch some of the rogue water spray) while I stand nearby in the dark, with a strawberry in one hand and the camera remote in the other, trying to drop the strawberry and click the shutter at the perfect millisecondal instants.
Fremont Peak Haze
After missing blogging for a few month, I'm updating this space once again. My life has become fuller, and my focus has sharpened on my career, not so much on what I wear every day. I still love reading blogs and being a girl, but from now on, I'll be posting less on style and more about my journey toward becoming a better photographer. The layout is wider so I have a nice, easy place to stuff the results of my photography practisizing.
Yesterday we took advantage of the sunny day and drove out to Fremont Peak. Fremont Peak is a look-out point and station on top of a mountain. I've never been there before, even though I have looked at it in the distance every clear day of my life. The view was incredible (we saw a bobcat!) but the haze and my Canon Rebel's limitations kept the full landscape a bit under cover. I would love to travel there on a completely clear day, or better yet, on a clear night!
I set the timer and then sprinted over to Eric, barely making it in time.
Flower Power
Bougainvillea
Dandelion
I've been taking colorful pictures to create a floral color wheel on the living room wall.
More Pictures of Oreo

In addition to saving for a major camera upgrade, I'm actively, if tentatively, beginning to practice portrait photos. So far Oreo has been my most successful subject, even though she doesn't seem to like me pointing the camera in her direction, not even for treats. I am keeping my fingers crossed that whenever Eric and I can add a pup to our family, it'll be one who likes attention and prancing!
